Private mode hides your activity from whoever picks up your device, and from nobody else. Your ISP, your employer, the owner of the Wi-Fi and the sites themselves see exactly what they'd see in a normal window. That isn't a flaw in the browser: the mode was built to avoid leaving local traces, and it never promised network anonymity.
The browser deletes from your device:
What stays: files you downloaded, bookmarks you created, and anything else you deliberately saved.

The last row is the only reason the feature exists. Everything above it concerns the network, and a browser doesn't touch the network.
"Private mode hides me from my ISP." It doesn't. Requests leave from your address through your operator; the window mode is irrelevant.
