VPN on your TV: setting up BessyConnect on Android TV

Your TV stopped being just a "box" a long time ago — it's a full media center where we stream shows, watch clips and sport, and play music. But the big screen is exactly where two problems show up: some content is locked behind geo-restrictions, and your smart TV quietly collects data on what you watch and when. A VPN handles both — it unlocks other countries' catalogs and hides your traffic from prying eyes on your home network.

Installing on Android TV

On your TV, open Google Play (the app store).
Search for BessyConnect.
Select the app and press Install.
Wait for it to download and open it from the home screen.

Note: this is the TV version, optimized for the remote and the big screen — large buttons, clear navigation, nothing extra. Don't confuse it with the phone app.

Signing in on your TV

BessyConnect doesn't require a separate registration. On first launch, sign in one of these ways:

with Apple;
with Google (the easiest on Android TV — your account is already tied to the device);
by email.

One account works on all your devices at the same time. That means you can sign in on the TV with the same account as on your phone, and use the VPN on both in parallel — no manual transfer of settings.

Navigating with the remote (D-pad)

The TV app's interface is built for a remote, not a touchscreen. Controls are dead simple:

The arrows (D-pad) move focus between elements — the country list and the connect button.
The center button (OK) selects a country and turns the VPN on or off.
The Back button returns to the previous screen.

Interface elements are large, labels read clearly from the couch, and focus is always visible — no need to aim a cursor.

Choosing a server and connecting

Open the country list inside the app.
Use the arrows to pick the country you want — the BessyConnect network has over 100 servers in 15 countries.
Press OK to connect.
Once the status switches to "connected," open a streaming app or the browser on your TV.

You can switch servers right in the app — automatically or manually by country. Switching takes a couple of seconds: pick another country, press OK, done. Traffic is unlimited, and no activity logs are kept, so you can watch as much as you like.

What if your TV is NOT on Android TV? (an honest answer)

Here it's important to be direct: there is no dedicated BessyConnect app for TVs on Samsung Tizen or LG webOS. Their own stores don't carry our app, and you can't officially "sideload an apk" onto them. But you can still cover such a TV with a VPN — in two ways.

Option 1. VPN on the router

Set up BessyConnect on your router, and your whole home goes under the VPN: any TV (Samsung and LG included), a console, smart speakers and other devices that can't run a VPN themselves. The TV doesn't "know" about the VPN at all — it simply goes online through a protected router. This is the most universal solution when you have a lot of devices.

Option 2. An Android TV box

The second route is to plug a cheap Android TV box into your TV over HDMI (for example one of those listed above) and install our TV app on the box instead. The TV becomes just a screen, while all the streaming and the VPN live on the box. This is often cheaper and simpler than dealing with the router, and it gives you the same convenient remote control.

We don't have a direct app for Samsung/LG — but either of these two routes fully solves the problem.

Frequently asked questions

Will streaming lag under a VPN? Reality is a light, fast protocol, and traffic is unlimited. Pick a nearby or lightly loaded server and video runs smoothly. If the picture "hesitates," try another country or server — it's a two-second change.

Is one account on the phone and the TV fine? Yes. One BessyConnect account works on all your devices at once. Sign in on the TV with the same account as on your phone — nothing needs to be transferred or duplicated.

I have a Samsung or LG — what do I do? There's no Tizen/webOS app. You have two options: put the VPN on your router (then the TV is protected automatically), or add an Android TV box and install the app on it.

Do I need a separate subscription for the TV? No, you don't need a separate TV account — you use the same sign-in (Apple, Google or email) as on your other devices.
