Kakadu VPN («Какаду ВПН» in Russian, "cockatoo") is the paid family VPN Kakadu VPN: One Family, with a white cockatoo on its icon. It is published by the Armenian sole proprietor Aik Rafaelian (Айк Рафаелян), while the rights to the app in the App Store are attributed to KAKADU SECURE TECHNOLOGIES - FZCO. There are apps for Android, iPhone, iPad, M-series Macs, Windows, Linux, Android TV and the Chrome browser. As of October 26, 2026 a subscription costs from 499 rubles a month, and only a trial period is available for free. On Google Play Kakadu has more than a million downloads, but it isn't in the Russian App Store or RuStore.
If you need a VPN you can use without registration and on Apple TV, we recommend BessyConnect: it runs on VLESS with Reality camouflage, which makes the traffic look like ordinary HTTPS.

Kakadu VPN is the Kakadu service with a family subscription: one person pays, and the others get their own accounts. The official site is kakadu-vpn.app; the addresses kakadu.ae and kakadu.qa also redirect to it.
The privacy policy of September 28, 2026 names the data controller as sole proprietor Aik Rafaelian, registered in Armenia on May 15, 2023. The same person is listed in the WHOIS records of kakadu.ae and kakadu.qa, and for kakadu.ae the organization is recorded as KAKADU SECURE TECHNOLOGIES - FZCO. The same company publishes the AI app «Какаду AI» (Kakadu AI), which has been in the Russian App Store since August 24, 2026. It isn't a VPN, and that is exactly what you'll find when searching for «какаду» ("kakadu") in the Russian store.
There is also a copy of the site at kakadu.net.ru; the support account @kakaduvpn_support in Telegram links to it. We checked the buttons: on October 26 they led to the same places as on kakadu-vpn.app, that is, to the App Store, Google Play, the Chrome Web Store and the file server storage.cockatoovpn.ru.
What the site doesn't have is links to the Telegram channels @kakaduvpn, @kakaduvpn_bot and @kakadu_vpn_bot. They have 3 to 27 subscribers, were created in May and June 2025, and all of them have the same pinned post, «Единственный VPN, который стабильно работает в России» ("The only VPN that works reliably in Russia"), with a link to a private channel. We found no connection between these channels and Kakadu. How to check such lookalikes is explained in the article on fake VPN apps.
Kakadu has no free version, but there is a trial period with no card required. Its length isn't stated on the site. After that you need a subscription; the cheapest costs 499 rubles a month.
Prices from kakadu-vpn.app as of October 26, 2026:
| Plan | 1 month | 6 months | 12 months | People in the subscription | Owner's devices |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 499 rubles | 2,249 rubles | 3,999 rubles | Up to 5 | Up to 2 |
| Plus | 749 rubles | 3,349 rubles | 5,999 rubles | Up to 10 | Up to 5 |
| Pro | 1,249 rubles | 5,599 rubles | 9,999 rubles | Up to 20 | Up to 10 |
Invited members have their own limit: from two devices on Basic to five on Pro. In the US App Store the same plans cost from $4.99.
The figures differ from place to place. The site's home page promises you can add "up to 35 family members", while the store listings and the pricing table give a maximum of 20. The App Store description claims a 45-day money-back guarantee, while the "Refund Policy" on the site says 10 calendar days. The site says "2000+" servers, the extension description "3000+ in 60+ countries". If refunds matter to you, go by the policy on the site and keep your profile ID: support asks you to send it along with your request.
Promo codes and promotions, according to the site, are published in Kakadu's Telegram channel; a link to it is on the kakadu-vpn.app home page. How else to evaluate paid and free services is covered in the review of people's VPNs.
It's best to download Kakadu via the buttons on kakadu-vpn.app: they lead to Google Play, the App Store, the Chrome Web Store and the storage.cockatoovpn.ru server for the other systems. There is a Windows version; for iPhone you need an Apple ID from a region other than Russia.
| Device | Where to install from | What is stated as of 26.10.2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play, package com.matrena.vpn | Android 8.0 and later |
| Android without Google Play | Kakadu.apk file from the site | With this installation, Google sign-in doesn't work |
| iPhone and iPad | App Store, id6451071772 | iOS 16 and later; not visible in the Russian region |
| Mac | The same app from the App Store | macOS 13 and later, M1 or newer processors only |
| Windows | Kakadu Setup v1.5.9.exe from the site, about 94 MB | Windows 10 x64 and later |
| Linux | .deb package v1.1.9 from the site | Debian only |
| Android TV | Kakadu TV.apk file from the site | Android 10 and later |
| Browser | Chrome Web Store, «Kakadu VPN: Одна семья» (Kakadu VPN: One Family) | Version 1.1.11 of October 1, 2026 |
On iPhone. The Kakadu site itself warns that the app isn't visible in the App Store with the Russian region. In our check on October 26 it was available in the US, Kazakhstan and Germany App Stores.
On PC. There is a separate program for Windows. Take the installer only via the button on the official site, not from catalogs or Telegram: no one has verified the signature of someone else's file. On a Mac with an Intel processor the app won't launch. General options for computers are collected in the article on VPN for PC.
Extension. The official extension is called «Kakadu VPN: Одна семья» (Kakadu VPN: One Family); it has about 10 thousand users, a 4.2 rating and a note that it was published by the owner of the kakadu.qa site. The same store has two namesakes called «Какаду VPN» (Kakadu VPN) from other developers: one has 145 users, the other 8. Both describe themselves as proxy extensions and have nothing to do with Kakadu. Remember that an extension protects only browser traffic, not the whole computer. More in the comparison of VPN extensions and apps.
Kakadu's failures have two typical causes: blocking on the carrier's side and outages on the service's own servers. In its terms of use of May 18, 2025, Kakadu states outright that it can't guarantee uninterrupted operation because of "government blocking" and internet provider problems.
Reviews on Google Play show what this looks like. On August 15, 2026 a user wrote that since August servers had been disappearing for 5–7 hours. On September 15 another complained that the app takes a long time to load, won't let you register, and connects to the UK instead of Serbia. The author of a September 8 review, by contrast, is satisfied: according to him, local failures are fixed by restarting the app 90% of the time, and by reinstalling it in the rest. The developer responds to complaints the same way: it asks people to write to support.
What to check, in order:
If only sign-in fails, check where the app was installed from: in the APK version, Google sign-in is disabled. When mobile internet is restricted to whitelists, almost any VPN is powerless. Other causes are covered in the article why a VPN isn't working.
Kakadu names its legal entity, address and registration date, has no ads, and its privacy policy promises not to keep logs. We found no independent audit, and the data disclosures in different stores don't match.
The policy of September 28, 2026 says the service doesn't store connection times, traffic volume, browsing history or DNS queries, and uses the IP address only for the connection. At the same time, an email and an identifier are collected for the account, transaction identifiers for purchases, and data is shared with hosting providers and with Google when you sign in through Google. According to the same policy, nothing is shared with advertising or analytics networks.
In the Google Play "Data safety" section the developer wrote that no data is collected. In the App Store the same developer stated that a phone number, photos or videos and a device identifier, not linked to identity, may be collected. In the Chrome Web Store, personal data, login data and location are listed for the extension. This isn't necessarily a sign of a problem, but the claims are worth cross-checking.
As for the protocol, Kakadu says it is "proprietary", and on the site names ChaCha20, Curve25519 and the Noise Protocol. WireGuard is built on this same set, according to the WireGuard documentation. Resistance to DPI isn't claimed in the descriptions.
If Kakadu has stopped connecting or you don't want to create an account, choose based on your task. The table includes only what the stores and the services' sites confirm as of October 26, 2026.

Let's be direct about where Kakadu is stronger. It has programs for Windows and Linux and a Chrome extension, and the family subscription with separate accounts is convenient if the whole family needs a VPN. It is on Google Play in Russia and gives 10 days for a refund. Amnezia has open source code and lets you run a VPN on your own server; there is a separate review of it. Proton has a free plan and apps for almost every system.
We recommend BessyConnect to those who need a VPN with a clearly named protocol and no mandatory account. It runs on VLESS with Reality camouflage, which makes the traffic look like an ordinary HTTPS connection, so this kind of VPN is resistant to DPI. There are more than a hundred servers, no logs are kept, registration isn't required, and there is a trial period.
BessyConnect apps:
What neither BessyConnect nor any other VPN solves. BessyConnect has no apps for Windows or Linux, and here Kakadu is more convenient. BessyConnect isn't in the Russian App Store either; on iPhone you need an Apple ID from another country. And when mobile internet is shut off under whitelists, almost no VPN helps.
If Kakadu works for you and the family plan is good value, there's no reason to switch. If servers keep disappearing, you don't want to create an account, or you need a VPN on Apple TV, try BessyConnect: all versions are gathered on the download page.
Is Kakadu VPN free? No. There is a trial period with no card required, then a subscription from 499 rubles a month at the site's prices as of October 26, 2026.
