Ninja VPN (Ниндзя ВПН): who owns it, where to download it and why it doesn't work in Russia

The query «ниндзя впн» ("ninja vpn") usually refers to Ninja VPN, a free Android app from Ninja VPN Ltd. of the British Virgin Islands. It has more than 10 million installs on Google Play. Since September 2026 it hasn't worked in Russia: on September 12 the developer replied to a user in the reviews that Ninja VPN had stopped operating in Russia, Iran and China, and the install button disappeared from the Russian Google Play storefront. Ninja VPN Ltd. has no versions for PC or iPhone. Below is what is known about the service and its namesakes from primary sources as of October 26, 2026.

If you need a VPN that works under blocking in Russia and isn't limited to Android, we recommend BessyConnect: it runs on VLESS with Reality camouflage and doesn't require registration.

What is Ninja VPN and who is behind it?

Ninja VPN is a product of Ninja VPN Ltd., a company registered in the British Virgin Islands under number 2161939. This is stated in the privacy policy and the terms of service on ninjavpn.app, both updated on September 12, 2026. The Google Play listing gives an address at Intershore Chambers in Road Town and a US phone number with the +1 628 area code.

The app promises one-tap connection, servers in more than 40 countries on the free plan and more than 60 on the paid one. There are two protocols: WireGuard and its own Stealth mode, and the app can choose between them by itself. There is also split tunneling, local network access and custom DNS. According to the developer, about a million people use Ninja VPN every day. We can't verify this figure.

The ninjavpn.app site, as of October 26, 2026, looks like a template: it claims "500+ servers", Double VPN, 10 devices per subscription and the OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols. None of this appears on the Google Play listing. It's better to go by the listing and the terms of service.

How many "ninja" VPNs are there, and how not to mix them up?

Besides the original, at least six products carry "ninja" in their name or domain. We found no confirmed links between them, only one strange email coincidence, described below. The original with 10M installs is recognizable by the publisher Ninja VPN Ltd. and the Road Town address.

What turned up in a check on October 26, 2026:

  • «Ниндзя ВПН» on Google Play. An app with a Cyrillic name from the publisher V2RAY DEV, version 0.2, more than 100 installs, updated October 19, 2026. The "About the developer" section lists KAPE, AO and an address in Konakovo, Tver Region, while the support email is the same as the original's: support@ninjavpn.app. "Data safety" notes that the app may share device identifiers with third parties. The same publisher puts out «Сота ВПН» (Sota VPN), "F3 VPN" and «Гру ВПН» (Gru VPN).
  • App Store. Under this name there are two apps from other companies: Ninja VPN-IP Proxy Unlimited from Bit Security Inc. (last updated October 7, 2024) and VPN Ninja: Fast Secure Proxy from ONLYAPPS DOO. Neither is in the Russian storefront.
  • Chrome extension. Ninja VPN: Secure Proxy & VPN from NinjaVPN of Tallinn, 20K users, 3.4 rating. The latest version, 1.0.9, was released on December 7, 2021.
  • Telegram. The bot @NinjaVpnBot and the channel @NinjaVPN_official, which claims the Shadowsocks and VLESS protocols in 39 countries. At the time of checking the channel had 22 subscribers, and the last post was from March 8, 2026. Neither Google Play nor the Ninja VPN Ltd. site links to them.
  • The ninja-vpn.ru site. It currently hosts a service called NJ VPS: seven European countries, a personal account, a subscription via the Incy and Happ clients. The Telegram button on the site leads to a bot with a different name, "Need VPN". The domain was registered on December 15, 2024 to a private individual.
  • AdGuard VPN. It has no "ninja" in its name, but the Russian version of its site is built around this image: «Станьте ниндзя» ("Become a ninja"), «кодекс Ниндзя» ("the Ninja code"). This is probably where Yandex suggestions like «adguard vpn ниндзя» ("adguard vpn ninja") and «vpn ниндзя в кустах» ("vpn ninja in the bushes") come from.

One more observation. In the Russian App Store, a search for "ninja vpn" shows «AdGuard VPN: API-тестер» (AdGuard VPN: API tester) from BED EMPREENDIMENTOS LTDA first. According to its description it is an HTTP client for developers, and the seller on the listing is not Adguard Software Limited, the publisher of the real AdGuard VPN. How to recognize such apps is covered in the piece on how to tell a fake VPN app. With its "free and one button" model, Ninja VPN resembles «Ток ВПН» (Tok VPN), «Тик ВПН» (Tik VPN) and «Дед ВПН» (Ded VPN); a general checklist for such apps is collected in the review of people's VPNs.

Is Ninja VPN free or paid?

The basic mode is free: no registration, no traffic limit and no trial period. You pay with ads and limitations that are lifted only in Premium.

The terms of service of September 12, 2026 describe the free mode as follows:

  • a short ad may be shown before connecting;
  • premium servers are unavailable;
  • a single session can last up to 6 hours, after which the VPN disconnects and has to be turned on again.

Premium is sold as a monthly or annual subscription: no ads, all servers and no session length limit. Prices are given neither on the Google Play listing nor on the site, so we won't name them.

Ninja VPN download: for Android, iPhone and PC

Officially, Ninja VPN is only on Google Play, for Android 8.0 and later, and it can no longer be installed from the Russian storefront. Ninja VPN Ltd. has no versions for iPhone, Windows or Mac: the terms of service state outright that iOS, Windows and browser extensions are only planned.

Android. In a check on October 26, 2026, Ninja VPN had no "Install" button in the Russian Google Play storefront, but it did in the US one. Other VPNs from the same check (AdGuard VPN, Proton VPN) do have the button in the Russian storefront. We don't recommend installing an APK from third-party sites: no one has verified the file's signature, and the service doesn't work in Russia anyway. Why "premium mods" of VPNs are dangerous is explained in the article on cracked VPNs.

iPhone. There are no Ninja VPN Ltd. apps in the App Store. The namesakes from Bit Security Inc. and ONLYAPPS DOO are different services with different terms, and they aren't in the Russian storefront either.

PC. The queries «ниндзя впн на пк» ("ninja vpn for PC") and «для компьютера» ("for computer") are among the most frequent, but Ninja VPN has no Windows program. There are three options, and none of them equals "Ninja on a computer":

  1. An Android emulator. Emulator catalogs host pages for apps with similar names, sometimes from entirely different developers. A VPN inside an emulator, as a rule, protects only the emulator itself.
  2. The Ninja VPN extension for Chrome. This is a different product from the Estonian NinjaVPN; it works only in the browser and hasn't been updated since December 2021.
  3. A VPN that has a Windows client. Among the "ninjas", that's AdGuard VPN with its ninja character on the site.

The options are covered in detail in the article on VPN for PC.

Why doesn't Ninja VPN work in Russia?

Because the developer itself stopped operating the service in Russia. On September 12, 2026 Ninja VPN Ltd. replied to a user on Google Play: "Ninja VPN has stopped operating in Russia, Iran and China." Before that, the user had described a "not available in your region" error after an update.

The failures started earlier. Reviews from July and August 2026 say that servers don't load, the speed drops to a few kilobytes per second, and the VPN turns on but there's no internet. At that time the developer advised updating the app, changing the server and writing to support@ninjavpn.app.

If you are in Russia, this can't be fixed with phone settings: the service is closed for the region on the developer's side. If you are abroad and Ninja VPN won't connect, try the following:

  1. Update the app to version 1.4.12.
  2. Change the server or switch the protocol between WireGuard and Stealth.
  3. Turn off other VPNs and "Private DNS" in Android settings.
  4. Restart the phone and connect again.
  5. Write to support@ninjavpn.app, stating your phone model, Android version and country.

Other causes common to all services are collected in the article why a VPN isn't working.

Is Ninja VPN safe?

Ninja VPN has a legal entity with a registration number and a detailed privacy policy, which is a plus. But the free mode relies on Google AdMob ads, we found no independent audit, and the jurisdiction is offshore.

What is stated in the documents of September 12, 2026. The service doesn't keep activity logs and doesn't store IP addresses, emails or connection times. Traffic volume and session duration, tied to an anonymous installation identifier, are processed temporarily. Ads are shown via Google AdMob, and the policy warns outright that they may be personalized. Firebase and Google Analytics are used for statistics.

In the Google Play "Data safety" section the developer stated that it collects app activity, performance data and device identifiers, doesn't share them with third parties, and that data can't be deleted.

Ninja VPN alternatives: what to use instead

Users in Russia will have to replace Ninja VPN: the service is closed for the region. The table includes only what is confirmed by store listings and official sites as of October 26, 2026.

Let's be direct about where the competitors are stronger. Ninja VPN is free with no traffic limit, and AdGuard VPN and Proton VPN have Windows clients, which BessyConnect lacks. How Proton and AdGuard differ from each other in Russia is covered in a separate comparison, Proton VPN and AdGuard VPN.

Why we recommend BessyConnect

We recommend BessyConnect to those who, after Ninja VPN's exit, need a service that works under blocking in Russia and names its protocol outright. It is VLESS with Reality camouflage: the traffic looks like an ordinary HTTPS connection, which makes the service resistant to DPI. There are more than a hundred servers, no logs are kept, registration isn't required, and there is a trial period.

BessyConnect apps:

What neither BessyConnect nor any other VPN solves. BessyConnect has no Windows app, so it doesn't answer the "ninja vpn for PC" query. It isn't in the Russian App Store either; to install it on an iPhone you need an Apple ID from another country. When mobile internet is shut off under whitelists, a VPN as a rule doesn't help. And BessyConnect isn't free like Ninja VPN: after the trial period it is paid.

If you are abroad and Ninja VPN works for you, there's no reason to switch. But if you are in Russia and see "not available in your region", or you need a VPN on an iPhone and a TV, try BessyConnect: all versions are gathered on the download page.

Frequently asked questions

What country is Ninja VPN from? Ninja VPN belongs to Ninja VPN Ltd., a company from the British Virgin Islands. A same-named app with the Cyrillic title «Ниндзя ВПН» is published by a different publisher, V2RAY DEV, with an address in the Tver Region.

Is Ninja VPN free? Yes, the basic mode is free and has no traffic limit, but it shows ads before connecting and limits sessions to 6 hours. Premium lifts these restrictions; the developer doesn't publish its prices.

Is there Ninja VPN for PC? No. Ninja VPN Ltd. has only an Android app, and the terms of service list versions for iOS and Windows as plans. The Ninja VPN extension for Chrome is a product of a different company and hasn't been updated since 2021.

Why does Ninja VPN say "not available in your region"? On September 12, 2026 the developer said that Ninja VPN had stopped operating in Russia, Iran and China. Reinstalling and changing the server don't help here.

What can I use instead of Ninja VPN in Russia? If iPhone, Apple TV or Android TV and a named protocol matter to you, BessyConnect on VLESS with Reality camouflage will do. Keep in mind that it is paid after the trial period and has no Windows app.
