Oko VPN («Око ВПН», "Eye VPN") is the Android app «OKO VPN - бесплатный ВПН» (OKO VPN - free VPN) on Google Play. The publisher is signed as soft online; the app came out on May 12, 2026, and has passed 3.6 million installs. Every month it gives free traffic, and for a fee it unlocks a premium mode. There are no versions for iPhone or Windows. Its rating is 3.3 out of 5 from 20 thousand ratings, and in recent reviews the most common complaint is that the app stops working (Google Play data as of October 26, 2026).
Don't confuse it with two namesakes. The first is the old Oko VPN, which Google removed from the store in March 2023: researchers found code in it that turned phones into proxy nodes. The second is the Georgian company Oko.Labs, the contractor under the public offer of Batya VPN («Батя ВПН»). We found no connection between today's OKO VPN and either of them.
If you need a service that names its protocol openly and whose operation doesn't depend on how many free gigabytes you have left, we recommend BessyConnect. Details are in the section below.
OKO VPN is a one-button app for Android: you press the button and a server is selected automatically. The protocol isn't named on the listing. Behind the app is the developer account soft online, and the legal entity in the contacts is the British DSF CATERING LTD.
| Parameter | What the primary sources say |
|---|---|
| Name on Google Play | «OKO VPN - бесплатный ВПН» (package okovpn.app) |
| Publisher | soft online |
| Legal entity in the contacts | DSF CATERING LTD, United Kingdom |
| Release | May 12, 2026 |
| Version | 1.0.16 of September 27, 2026, Android 7.0 or later |
| Installs | 1M+ on the listing, exact value in the page data: 3,671,069 |
| Rating | 3.3 out of 5 from 20,221 ratings |
| Devices | Phone, tablet, TV |
| Model | Free traffic every month and a paid premium |
| Protocol | Not disclosed |
The legal entity looks unexpected for a VPN. According to the UK company register Companies House, DSF CATERING LTD was incorporated on October 30, 2025, and its line of business is "other food service activities". The phone number on the listing is Thai, and the email is on gmail. Under the same soft online account on Google Play there is one more app: an Arabic-language one released in December 2025 with about a hundred installs.
We didn't find a site of the service's own. The domain okovpn.com is parked and up for sale. The privacy policy is hosted on a free Notion page, and the company name isn't given in it, only the email okosoft.back@yandex.com. In replies to reviews, support directs users to another address, help.oko@yandex.ru.
OKO VPN belongs to the same wave of simple apps as Tok, Tik and Ded. A general checklist for such services is in the review of people's VPN apps.
There is no confirmation of a connection. Only the word "Oko" matches. The two services have different publishers, legal entities and support addresses.
Oko.Labs LLC is a company from the Kobuleti municipality of Georgia (identification number 447011313). It is listed as the contractor in Batya VPN's public offer, which has been in effect since March 1, 2026. What the cross-check on October 26, 2026, showed:
A hidden connection can't be ruled out from open data. But there are no grounds for linking OKO VPN to Batya based on one word in the name.
A different app used to live under the name Oko VPN: com.okovpn.app from VIP Internet Security LTD. Google removed it from the store on March 23, 2023. It differs from today's okovpn.app in package, publisher and year of release.
Why this matters. In a report of March 26, 2024, the company HUMAN Security described the PROXYLIB operation. The Android version of the old Oko VPN connected the phone to a proxy network: other people's requests to email services, shops and streaming services went through the user's device. According to HUMAN, the operators used this network for ad fraud. The researchers checked the iPhone version and found no malicious code in it. In total, 28 apps with the same library were found.
The last version of the old app is 1.7.1. It was uploaded to APKMirror on March 21, 2023, two days before it was removed from Google Play. Yandex suggestions still include the query «oko vpn 1.7.1 скачать на андроид» ("oko vpn 1.7.1 download for android"). This is not an update of the current OKO VPN but a delisted app. You shouldn't install it.
Other name matches:
None of these channels is connected to the app on Google Play. How to tell the original from a copy is covered in the article on fake VPN apps, and what you risk by installing APKs from third-party sites is in the article on modified VPN builds.
You can download and use it for free, but within a monthly traffic limit. The size of the limit and the subscription prices aren't given on the Google Play listing.
The app description says: "free traffic every month" and "premium mode with higher speed and priority access". The rest is known only from reviews of October 24–25, 2026, and this is not confirmed data:
Before paying, check the price and auto-renewal right in the app. If the subscription was taken out through Google Play, you can cancel it like this: Google Play → profile → "Payments & subscriptions" → "Subscriptions" → "Cancel subscription". Google's help pages specifically say that uninstalling the app doesn't cancel the subscription. For refunds of in-app purchases, Google advises contacting the developer first.
What you usually pay with for a free VPN is covered in the comparison of free and paid VPNs.
There is one official source: Google Play. There OKO VPN is available for phones, tablets and TVs on Android 7.0 or later. There are no versions for iPhone or Windows.
| Platform | Is OKO VPN available | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Yes, Google Play | Publisher soft online, package okovpn.app |
| Android TV | Yes, TVs are listed on the listing | One review complains of interruptions on TV |
| iPhone, iPad | No | The app isn't in the App Store in Russia or the US |
| Windows, Mac | No | Only via an Android emulator |
| RuStore | No | Searches for «око впн» and "oko vpn" don't find it |
Oko VPN for iPhone. A search for the name OKO VPN in the App Store in Russia and the US finds nothing. Everything offered under this name for iPhone is a different product. A curious detail: in replies to reviews, support sometimes asks for your "iOS version", even though there is no iPhone app.
Oko VPN for PC. There is no separate program for Windows. BlueStacks publishes a page suggesting you run the Android version in its emulator. Keep in mind that an Android VPN inside an emulator, as a rule, routes only the traffic of apps inside the emulator itself, while the browser and Windows programs keep working directly. How to choose a client that covers the whole computer is described in the article on VPN for PC.
APKs from third-party sites. Catalogs like Uptodown post the current version 1.0.16, while APKMirror has the old Oko VPN 1.7.1. If you install from somewhere other than Google Play, check the package name: for the current app it is okovpn.app, not com.okovpn.app.
Most often OKO VPN shows "connected", but sites and apps don't load. This is what users write in reviews, and the developer itself attributes the failures to blocking. If changing the server and the network doesn't help, the problem is on the service's side and the user can't fix it.
The scale is visible on Google Play. Of the 300 most recent reviews, left on October 24–25, 2026, 149 gave one star, and 133 say the app doesn't work, doesn't connect or loads nothing. The most common story: while the free traffic lasted, everything worked, and after paying it stopped. These are users' accounts, and we can't verify each one.
The developer acknowledges the interruptions. On August 29, 2026, it replied to reviews with the same text: "For the last few days we have been fighting large-scale blocking. Because of it, the VPN may have worked unstably".
What to check, in order:
Other causes common to all VPNs are collected in the article why a VPN isn't working.
We found no obvious signs of malicious behavior in the current OKO VPN. But the developer's documents contradict each other, and the operator of the service isn't named anywhere.
What can be seen on October 26, 2026:
The main question is not about the code but about who is responsible for the service. The policy names neither a company nor a country, and the legal entity on Google Play is registered as a food service business.
We recommend BessyConnect to those for whom it matters to know how a service works and who don't want to think about remaining gigabytes. The protocol is named openly: VLESS with Reality camouflage, which makes traffic look like an ordinary HTTPS connection. There are more than a hundred servers, no logs are kept, registration isn't required, and there is a trial period.
Comparison with OKO VPN and alternatives from our reviews:
| BessyConnect | OKO VPN | Planet VPN | Sota VPN | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Protocol | VLESS with Reality camouflage | Not disclosed | OpenVPN, IKEv2, StarGuard | Not stated in the catalog |
| Free access | Trial period | Monthly traffic limit | 5 countries with no traffic limit | No, subscription from 349 ₽ a month |
| Platforms | iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Android, Android TV | Android, Android TV | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Android TV | Its own app, platform list not stated in the catalog |
| Registration | Not required | An account by User ID, email optional | Not needed on the free plan | No data |
The data on Planet VPN is taken from our review based on the official site as of October 6, 2026, and on Sota VPN («Сота ВПН») from the VPN Status catalog as of September 21, 2026. Check prices and terms with the services themselves before paying.
Where OKO VPN is stronger, to be honest. It has free monthly traffic without payment, while BessyConnect is free only during the trial period. Planet VPN, unlike both, works on Windows. BessyConnect has no Windows app.
BessyConnect apps:
What neither BessyConnect nor any other VPN will solve. Money paid for OKO VPN can only be refunded by its developer or by the store through which the payment went. When mobile internet is shut off under whitelists, a VPN as a rule doesn't help. And the BessyConnect app isn't in the Russian App Store: installing it on an iPhone requires an Apple ID from another country.
If OKO VPN works for you and the free traffic is enough, there is no reason to switch. But if it shows "connected" and nothing loads, or it bothers you that no responsible company is visible behind the service, try BessyConnect: all versions are gathered on the download page.
Are Oko VPN and Batya VPN the same company? There is no confirmation. The contractor under Batya's offer is the Georgian Oko.Labs LLC, while OKO VPN on Google Play is published by soft online with the British DSF CATERING LTD in the contacts. The services have different emails and documents.
Can I download Oko VPN 1.7.1? You shouldn't. Version 1.7.1 belongs to the old app com.okovpn.app, which Google removed in March 2023. According to the HUMAN Security report, its Android version turned phones into proxy nodes.
Is there Oko VPN for iPhone? No. As of October 26, 2026, there is no OKO VPN app in the App Store in Russia or the US; there is only the Android version on Google Play.
Is Oko VPN free? Partly: free traffic is given every month, and beyond that you need a subscription. The amount and prices aren't stated on the listing. Reviews mention 10 GB a month and 299–300 rubles for a month's subscription.
What can replace Oko VPN? If you need a service with an openly named protocol, we recommend BessyConnect: VLESS with Reality camouflage, no logs kept, registration not required. It has no Windows app; on a computer it works only on a Mac.
