The query «ред впн» ("red vpn") usually refers to Red Shield VPN: in Yandex suggestions it sits next to «ред шилд впн» ("red shield vpn"). It is a paid VPN service from Private Network Labs LLC: it has been running since 2017, it has more than a million installs on Google Play, and a subscription on the site costs from 445 ₽ a month when paid for a year (data as of October 27, 2026). There is also a namesake, RedVPN with the site redvpn.ru: it is a separate service that issues an access key through a personal account. Below, based on primary sources, we look at how they differ, where to log in to the account and what to do if the connection drops.
If you need a service without registration, with an openly named protocol and apps for iPhone, Mac and Android TV, we recommend BessyConnect. We explain why in a separate section below.
Red Shield VPN belongs to Private Network Labs LLC. The footer of redshieldvpn.com gives an address in the town of Hamilton, New York, and the domain was registered on August 2, 2017. According to Habr from September 15, 2021, the owner of the service is Vladislav Zdolnikov. The iPhone app appeared in the App Store on November 6, 2019, and the latest version, 5.0.3, came out on October 21, 2026.
Several more products work under similar names, and they shouldn't be confused:
| Name | Publisher | How to connect | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red Shield VPN | Private Network Labs LLC, USA | Its own app, account by email | iPhone, iPad, Android, Android TV, Windows, macOS, Apple TV, Linux, routers, browser extensions |
| RedVPN (redvpn.ru) | The legal entity isn't named on the site; the Android app is published by Firesoft LLP from Kostanay, Kazakhstan | An access key from the personal account, the Outline client or its own app | Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux |
| VPN Super Proxy by RedVPN | Internet Mastering & Company, Inc. | An app without an account | iPhone, Android (APK), Windows, Mac, Linux |
| Red VPN — Speed Tunnels | KORVIK ENTERTAINMENT LTD | An app | iPhone |
The last two programs are aimed at a foreign audience, and they aren't in the Russian App Store. In Telegram, Red Shield VPN has the bot @redshieldvpn (30,846 monthly users) and the channel «Red Shield VPN Россия» (Red Shield VPN Russia) with 6.97 thousand subscribers. The bot @redvpnbot is run in Persian and has nothing to do with either of the two Russian services.
The genuine Red Shield app can be identified like this: the publisher in the store is Private Network Labs LLC, and the listing gives an email address on the redshieldvpn.com domain. The dangers of copies with similar names are covered in the article on how to tell a fake VPN app. Unlike the "people's" one-button services, Red Shield sells a classic subscription. We collected those "people's" apps themselves in the review Tok, Tik, Ded and other people's VPNs.
Red Shield VPN has no free plan. On the site, as of October 27, 2026, a month costs 890 ₽, six months 4,005 ₽ (668 ₽ a month), and a year 5,340 ₽ (445 ₽ a month). Instead of a trial period, the service promises a refund within 14 days if the connection doesn't work.
| Red Shield VPN plan | Site, ₽ | US App Store, $ |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | 890 | 11.99 |
| 6 months | 4005 | 53.99 |
| 12 months | 5340 | 71.90 |
Any plan gives up to 10 devices, unlimited traffic and router support. The site shows the annual price as a 50% discount off 10,680 ₽. You can pay by bank card or cryptocurrency, according to the app's description on Google Play.
The namesake RedVPN (redvpn.ru) has lower prices, but different terms too. The "Start" plan costs 49 ₽ for 3 days, "Lite" from 165 ₽ a month, and "Maximum" from 249 ₽ a month; the latter is designed for five users with setup on a router. According to the service's FAQ, the key can be entered on several devices, but they can't connect at the same time. Payment is by Russian card.
The Red Shield VPN personal account is at my.redshieldvpn.com, and registration is there too. The RedVPN account is at lk.red-vpn.ru: as of October 27, 2026, it redirects to lk.redproxy.co. Type the addresses manually or take them from the service's page, not from ads and chats.
What the Red Shield account offers:
In the RedVPN account, the access key appears right after you pay for a plan, even the three-day "Start". You copy it into the app and tap "Connect". Before that, the service advises turning off other VPN connections, and on a computer sometimes even removing other VPN apps.
On Android, Red Shield VPN is installed from Google Play (1M+ installs, rating 4.7) or as an APK from the official site. The Windows and macOS apps are downloaded from redshieldvpn.com, and there are manual setup instructions for Linux. It can't be installed on an iPhone with a Russian Apple ID: on July 4, 2024, Apple removed the app from the Russian App Store at the request of Roskomnadzor, the service reported in its Telegram channel.
By platform:
The service itself warns: apps from third-party sources like Gbox may be modified and contain malicious code. If you logged in to your account through such a build, delete it and change your password in the account. General rules for choosing a VPN for a computer are collected in the article VPN for PC.
The main reason is blocking on the network side. According to Habr, Roskomnadzor began restricting Red Shield VPN using TSPU (DPI equipment) on September 15, 2021. Blocks of individual nodes were repeated later too: in March 2023 the service reported them in its channel. The second common reason for iPhone owners is an outdated version: you can't update with a Russian Apple ID, and support doesn't accept requests about old versions.
The checklist the service itself requires you to go through before contacting support:
If nothing helped, write to support from the address your account is registered to: device, country, screenshot. They promise a reply within 24 hours. Keep in mind that when mobile internet is shut off under whitelists, neither Red Shield nor any other VPN usually connects. Other causes are covered in the article why a VPN isn't working.
Red Shield states that it doesn't keep connection or traffic logs. In the app stores, the developer stated that it collects email and purchase history linked to the account, as well as diagnostic data not linked to identity. According to the developer, data isn't shared with third parties. The site has Bug Bounty and Warrant Canary pages, but we didn't find an independent audit report there.
What else is visible from primary sources:
For RedVPN (redvpn.ru), the picture is less transparent. The user agreement doesn't name a legal entity, only "the Provider", and Russian law applies. Clause 5.5 explicitly relieves the provider of responsibility for the security and confidentiality of transmitted data. The protocol isn't named on the site.
If Red Shield VPN doesn't suit you on price or has stopped connecting, compare it with the three services below. The table contains only what is stated in the app stores and on official sites as of October 27, 2026.
| BessyConnect | Red Shield VPN | RedVPN (redvpn.ru) | Amnezia Premium | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Protocol | VLESS with Reality camouflage | Its own RedLink, WireGuard, AmneziaWG, VLESS (XTLS) | Not named, Outline client | AmneziaWG 3.1, VLESS Reality |
| Registration | Not required | Account by email | Registration in the account | No data |
| Free to try | Trial period | No, 14-day refund | "Start" for 49 ₽ for 3 days | Amnezia Free up to 8 Mbps |
| Windows | No | Yes | Via Outline | Yes |
| TV | Android TV, Apple TV | Android TV, Apple TV | No data | Android TV |
| Logs | Not kept | Not kept (claimed) | Not stated | No data |
Where Red Shield is stronger, to put it plainly: it has a Windows app, Linux instructions, browser extensions, router instructions, 37 locations including Russia, and a refund within 14 days. Besides the paid plan, Amnezia offers a free one, open-source code for your own server, and security audits by 7ASecurity for 2022, 2024 and 2025; more in the review Amnezia VPN.
We recommend BessyConnect to those who don't need an account and want to know what the connection runs on. The protocol is VLESS with Reality camouflage, which makes traffic look like an ordinary HTTPS connection. There are more than a hundred servers, no logs are kept, registration isn't required, and there is a trial period.
BessyConnect apps:
What neither BessyConnect nor any other VPN will solve. BessyConnect has no Windows app, so on a Windows PC Red Shield is more convenient. BessyConnect isn't in the Russian App Store either, just like Red Shield: on an iPhone you need an Apple ID from another country. When mobile internet is shut off under whitelists, a VPN as a rule doesn't help. And if you need a "Russia" location, it isn't among the facts about BessyConnect we have verified, while Red Shield has one.
If Red Shield VPN works for you and the price suits you, there is no reason to switch. If it has stopped connecting, doesn't update on your iPhone, or you don't want to create an account with an email, try BessyConnect: all versions are gathered on the download page.
Are Red VPN and Red Shield VPN the same thing? Usually yes: Yandex suggestions show that people searching for «ред впн» also search for «ред шилд впн». But there is also a separate service, RedVPN, with the site redvpn.ru and the account lk.red-vpn.ru; it has different plans and a different way of connecting.
Where is the Red VPN personal account? For Red Shield VPN, it's at my.redshieldvpn.com, along with registration and the manual WireGuard and VLESS settings. For RedVPN, it's lk.red-vpn.ru, which as of October 27, 2026, redirects to lk.redproxy.co.
Can I download Red VPN for PC? Yes. Red Shield VPN releases apps for Windows and macOS, downloaded from the official site redshieldvpn.com; for Linux there is manual setup. The service considers builds from third-party sources unsafe.
Why won't Red VPN download on my iPhone? On July 4, 2024, Apple removed Red Shield VPN from the Russian App Store at the request of Roskomnadzor. You can install and update the app with an Apple ID from another country, such as the US or Kazakhstan.
What can replace Red VPN? If you need a service without registration and with the VLESS Reality protocol right in the app, BessyConnect will do: it works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Android and Android TV. For Windows, Red Shield itself or Amnezia is a better fit.
