Avrora VPN («Аврора ВПН», Aurora VPN) is a paid VPN service that started on August 29, 2025, as a Chrome extension. It now has apps for Windows, Android and iPhone. The official site is aurora-vpns.ru, and news is posted in the Telegram channel @aurora_vpn_extension. You get one hour for free, after that it costs from 179 ₽ a month or 1,499 ₽ a year (data as of October 27, 2026). No legal entity is named on the site. If you need a VPN for the whole phone, not just the browser, with an openly named protocol, we recommend BessyConnect.
Avrora VPN is a Russian-language service without a named legal entity. On the site and in Telegram it signs itself simply "Aurora", and in the App Store the publisher is CAMERAUX SOFTWARE. The privacy policy names "Aurora" as the data controller, and the user agreement refers to "the Administration" without a tax ID or address.

The service changes addresses often. The Wayback Machine has snapshots of aurora-vpn.ru from September 20, 2025, to April 2026. At different times the channel mentioned the mirrors proxy-aurora.space, aurora-vpl.ru and vpl-android.ru, and the extension's code also lists aurora-vpnl.ru, aurora-vpns.ru and a couple of similar ones. In a snapshot from April 13, 2026, the site no longer called itself a VPN but "Aurora VPL". To avoid getting lost, the service itself advises bookmarking links-aurora.pro.
Not to be confused with other "Auroras". Aurora OS («Аврора») is a Russian mobile operating system from the company Open Mobile Platform («Открытая мобильная платформа»), and it has nothing to do with the VPN service. Aurora Store is an unofficial open-source Google Play client. Aurora OS is not on Aurora VPN's list of platforms. If you need a VPN specifically for a smartphone running Aurora OS, this service doesn't offer one.
The Aurora VPN extension installs in Chromium-based browsers: Chrome, Yandex Browser, Opera, Edge. Only browser traffic goes through it. Telegram, Discord and other programs on the computer are not affected.
We downloaded the version 2.9.0 package from the Chrome Web Store and looked at the code. The extension doesn't set up a VPN tunnel. It configures a SOCKS5 proxy in the browser via a PAC script, and the only permissions it requests are proxy, storage, alarms and access to its own server servers-aurora-w.ru. It has no access to page contents or history, and that's a plus. The downside is that SOCKS5, under the RFC 1928 specification, is a protocol for forwarding connections, not for encryption. HTTPS sites are protected by their own TLS, but we did not find the "modern encryption" mentioned in the store description in the extension's code.
Since September 5, 2026, you can switch between "All traffic" and "Only selected services" modes right in the extension window. The mode is available only with premium. How an extension differs from a full-fledged app is covered in the article VPN extension or app.
There is no free mode: you get one trial hour on two servers, once per account or device. After that you need premium, which is shared across all platforms.
| Plan on the site | Price | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | 179 ₽ | 179 ₽ |
| 3 months | 499 ₽ | 166 ₽ |
| 6 months | 899 ₽ | 150 ₽ |
| 12 months | 1,499 ₽ | 125 ₽ |
In the App Store, Aurora Connect sells "Премиум Коннект" (Premium Connect) for 399 ₽. The service itself advised in its channel on May 25, 2026, to pay on the site: through Apple it comes out 30% more expensive.
Prices are rising. In September 2025 the only plan cost 149 ₽ a month, and by April 2026 a month had gone up to 179 ₽. Payment on the site broke twice: on May 28 and from August 12 to 14, 2026; after the second time the payment aggregator was changed. Cards have been accepted again since October 8, and the service recommends SBP (the Russian Faster Payments System). The agreement allows refunds only in case of technical impossibility, double charging "and other justified cases" at the administration's discretion.
It is best to install Avrora only via links from aurora-vpns.ru or links-aurora.pro. Other people's apps are listed in the stores under this name.
Copycats in the Russian App Store as of October 27, 2026: "ВПН - Aurora VPN Fast" (Zoological Intelligent Technology Co., Limited) and "极光·Aurora VPN" (Topway Global Limited). The site auroravpn.ru without a hyphen is not Avrora VPN either: it's a separate service "Aurora", registered to a sole proprietor, charging 3 ₽ a day per device, and we found no connection to aurora-vpns.ru. The channel's pinned post says: "We have no Telegram bots — if you see a bot with our name, it's not us." How to tell a clone from the original is covered in our article on fake VPN apps.
Most often the cause is server-side outages. Over 2026 the service's channel describes more than a dozen such episodes: provider disruptions in Frankfurt, Armenia and Amsterdam, overheating in a data center in the Netherlands on May 27, an outage at EU carriers on August 4, a power outage at a data center on October 8. Service was usually restored within a few hours, and premium users were often given an extra day of subscription.
What to check, in order:
General reasons why a VPN connects but sites don't open are collected in the article why a VPN isn't working.
We found no clear signs of malware, but there are several opaque spots. The legal entity and the apps' protocol are not disclosed, and the data statements in different stores contradict each other.
Avrora is convenient for those who need a VPN right in the browser and a Windows client. If protecting the whole phone or a free plan matters more, there are options. The table contains only facts from the stores and official sites as of October 27, 2026.
| BessyConnect | Avrora VPN | Planet VPN (extension) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | VPN for the whole device | Extension and apps | Chrome extension |
| Protocol | VLESS with Reality camouflage | Extension: SOCKS5 proxy; not disclosed for the apps | Not checked |
| Free | Trial period | 1 hour, 2 servers | Free plan: 6 locations in 5 countries |
| Registration | Not required | Required in the apps | Not needed |
| Windows | No | Yes | Not checked |
| Russian App Store | No | Yes, Aurora Connect | Not checked |
Where Avrora is stronger. It has a Windows client, and BessyConnect doesn't. Its iPhone app is available in the Russian App Store without changing your Apple ID. The extension lets you route only selected sites through the server. Planet VPN, in turn, has a free plan without registration. More similar one-button services are collected in the review of people's VPNs.
BessyConnect protects all of the device's traffic, not a single browser tab. The protocol is named: VLESS with Reality camouflage, so traffic looks like an ordinary HTTPS connection. There are more than 100 servers, no logs are kept, registration isn't required, and there is a trial period.
BessyConnect apps:
What BessyConnect doesn't solve. There is no Windows app, so on a Windows PC Avrora remains an option and BessyConnect does not. BessyConnect isn't in the Russian App Store either: an iPhone needs an Apple ID from another country. If mobile internet is restricted by whitelists, a VPN as a rule doesn't help. BessyConnect also has no app for Aurora OS.
If you only need Avrora in the browser on your computer and it works reliably, there is no reason to switch. But if you need a VPN for the whole phone, with an openly named protocol, try BessyConnect: all versions are gathered on the download page.
Is Avrora VPN an extension or an app? Both. It started as an extension for Chrome, Yandex Browser, Opera and Edge, and now there are also apps for Windows, Android (APK from the site) and iPhone (Aurora Connect). One premium covers all platforms.
Is Avrora VPN free? No, you only get one free hour on two servers. After that, premium costs from 179 ₽ a month to 1,499 ₽ a year on the site, or "Премиум Коннект" (Premium Connect) for 399 ₽ in the App Store (as of October 27, 2026).
How do I download Avrora VPN for PC? For the browser, the extension "Aurora VPN — браузерный VPN" from the Chrome Web Store; the original has 50,000 users and the site aurora-vpns.ru. For the whole system, the installer for Windows 10 and 11 from the aurora-vpns.ru/windows page.
Are Avrora VPN and Aurora OS the same thing? No. Aurora OS is a mobile operating system from Open Mobile Platform, while Aurora VPN is a private VPN service. It has no app for Aurora OS.
What can replace Avrora VPN? If you need a VPN for the whole phone, we recommend BessyConnect: VLESS with Reality camouflage, more than 100 servers, no logs and no mandatory registration. It has no Windows app, so on a PC Avrora may remain more convenient.
