VeePN is a paid VPN from the Panamanian company VeePN Corp., with a free Chrome extension that has 15 million users and a limited free mode in the apps. In Russia it is a struggle. The app isn't in the Russian App Store, search on the Russian Google Play storefront doesn't show it, and on October 26, 2026, VeePN's support team itself told a user that the service "may be restricted or experience connection issues in some regions, including Russia".
If you need a VPN that disguises traffic as ordinary HTTPS and installs from the Russian Google Play, we recommend BessyConnect. Below are the facts about VeePN and an honest comparison.
VeePN is published by VeePN Corp., a company registered in Panama. The service was founded on March 6, 2017, and the first Android app came out in June of the same year. Payments are handled by partners: Laraun Limited of Cyprus and IT Research LLC of the US. The latter's address, in Florida, is listed on Google Play in the "About the developer" section.
| Parameter | What primary sources say (October 26, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Company | VeePN Corp., Panama (privacy policy, About Us page) |
| Payment partners | Laraun Limited (Cyprus), IT Research LLC (USA) |
| Servers | In the stores, 2,500+ servers in 89 countries; on the website, 2,600+ servers, 148 countries, 196 locations |
| Protocols | WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, Shadowsocks, OpenConnect and its own Smart VeePN |
| Platforms | Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, routers, extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge |
| Devices | Basic — 5, Pro — 10, Max — 20 (pricing page) |
| Russian language | Available in the apps and the extension |
| Updates | Chrome extension 5.0.3 of October 7, 2026; Android of October 5, 2026; iOS 4.0.0 of October 21, 2026 |
Besides the VPN, the subscription includes an antivirus, Breach Alert (checks whether your data has turned up in leaks), Alternative ID (substitute name and email for sign-ups), an ad blocker and a "private AI chat". There is a Kill Switch, Double VPN and split tunneling.
The extension is VeePN's main product by reach. In the Chrome Web Store it has 15,000,000 users and a rating of 4.5 from 53.5 thousand ratings. It is also available for Firefox, with 167 thousand daily users. The extension installs into Yandex Browser straight from the Chrome Web Store. How to do that is covered in our article VPN for Yandex Browser.
The main limitation: the extension works only for the browser. Its manifest has the proxy permission, meaning it reroutes the traffic of tabs, while Telegram, games and other programs on the computer go online bypassing the tunnel. More on this difference: extension or app.
What else can be seen in the extension listing as of October 26, 2026:
There is a free mode, but it differs in each app. The paid plans are called Basic, Pro and Max and differ mainly in the number of devices and the set of extra features.
| Platform | What you get for free (VeePN website, October 26, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Chrome extension | 6 free locations |
| Windows | 6 free locations, no session or traffic limit, no card required |
| Android | 1 location of your choice, sessions up to 2 hours, then reconnect |
| iPhone and iPad | 1 random location, sessions up to 2 hours |
Prices on the website on October 26, 2026, in dollars:
| Plan | 1 month | 12 + 4 months (first payment) | 24 + 4 months (first payment) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic, 5 devices | 11.99 | 47.84 | 55.72 |
| Pro, 10 devices | 12.99 | 54.24 | 69.72 |
| Max, 20 devices | 14.99 | 95.84 | 111.72 |
In the US App Store, the prices are different: weekly subscriptions from $9.99 to $14.99 and an annual one for $69.99. The trial period is 3 days on Android and iOS, and 7 days on macOS, Android TV and Fire TV. If you buy on the website, money is refunded within 14 days for weekly and monthly plans and 30 days for plans of six months or longer. A refund is given only once. The fee for a discounted trial isn't refunded, and if you open a dispute through your bank before contacting support, the guarantee is void.
Paying from Russia is difficult. Under the terms of use of January 13, 2026, VeePN accepts bank cards, PayPal, payment via Google Play and the App Store, Paymentwall and cryptocurrency. Cards from Russian banks don't work abroad: Visa announced this on March 5, 2022. Since March 10, 2022, Google Play hasn't accepted payments from users in Russia. Cryptocurrency payments are one-off, and refunds are made only in the same cryptocurrency, minus fees.
There is only one official source: the veepn.com website and the app stores. For Russia, every option comes with a caveat.
Windows. The VeePNInstaller.exe installer is on the website; it is about 104 MB, updated October 12, 2026. The free mode requires 64-bit Windows 10 version 19041 or later. For older versions of Windows the website has separate "legacy" builds. You don't need an Android emulator on a PC for VeePN: it has a full Windows app, as well as versions for macOS and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, Arch).
iPhone and iPad. A query to Apple's catalog on October 26, 2026, returned zero results for Russia and Belarus. The app is available in the App Stores of the US, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, Uzbekistan and Turkey, and requires iOS 17.2 or later. To install it, you need your own Apple ID from another country.
Android. The official app «VeePN: быстрый и надежный VPN» (VeePN: fast and reliable VPN) from VeePN Corp. has 5M+ installs. But on the Russian Google Play storefront, searching for "veepn" and "veepn vpn" doesn't find it, while on the Kazakhstan storefront it comes first. Its rating on the Russian storefront is 2.1, on the US one 4.2.
The first result in Russian Google Play search for "veepn" is Veepen - VPN. It is published not by VeePN Corp. but by JuneOSoftware, and the "About the developer" section lists a sole proprietor from Tbilisi. It is a V2Ray client with ads and 100K+ installs, and according to its "Data safety" declaration it may share location and device identifiers with third parties.
The picture is similar with extensions. In the Chrome Web Store on October 26, 2026, we found seven extensions named VeePN that weren't published by VeePN Corp.:
| Extension | Users | Publisher |
|---|---|---|
| «Бесплатный VPN для Chrome — VPN прокси VeePN» (Free VPN for Chrome — VPN Proxy VeePN; the original) | 15,000,000 | VeePN CORP, website veepn.com |
| VeePN VPN | 1,000 | anonymous Gmail address |
| «Veepn Vpn — Надежный быстрый впн для Chrome» (Veepn Vpn — Reliable fast VPN for Chrome) | 961 | the same Gmail address |
| «VeePN vpn — для CHROME» (VeePN vpn — for CHROME) | 407 | anonymous Gmail address |
| «VeePN — Работает в РФ в 2026» (VeePN — Works in Russia in 2026) | 12 | anonymous Gmail address |
Three more lookalikes with 58–140 users are set up the same way. All seven were updated in July 2026, and instead of a website the publishers list only Gmail addresses. How to tell the original: the publisher is VeePN CORP, the website is veepn.com, and it carries the "Created by the owner of the listed website" badge. General signs of fakes are collected in the article how to spot a fake VPN app.
The short answer: the service works unreliably, and its own support admits it. On October 26, 2026, in response to a "doesn't work in russia" review in the Chrome Web Store, VeePN replied that the service "may be restricted or experience connection issues in some regions, including Russia", and suggested writing to support@veepn.com.
Reviews from 2026 show the same picture:
If VeePN is installed and won't connect, check these in order:
If nothing helps, the network is most likely recognizing the protocol itself, and that can't be fixed on the user's side. A general checklist is in the article why a VPN isn't working.
According to its documents, VeePN doesn't store browsing history, traffic, DNS queries or the IP addresses you connect from. But the company does collect some things, and they are worth knowing.
What the privacy policy (updated March 10, 2025) says:
In the App Store, the developer states that identifiers may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and the "Contains" section lists "Ads". On Google Play it is stated that data isn't shared with third parties, but financial info and device identifiers may be collected, and there is an independent security review badge.
The external audit VeePN itself mentions covers only the browser extensions (Cure53, 2021). We found no public report on its website of an audit of the no-logs policy.
If VeePN connects reliably for you, there is no reason to switch. It has apps for Windows and Linux, browser extensions and a free mode with no traffic limit. You need a replacement when it won't connect, or when you can't pay for it or install it.

Proton VPN is covered in detail in the article Proton VPN and AdGuard VPN in Russia. If you are choosing among free one-button apps, take a look at our review of popular VPNs in Russia: it uses the same criteria we used to check the VeePN lookalikes.
We recommend BessyConnect to those whose VeePN has stopped connecting on their phone, tablet or TV. The VLESS protocol with Reality camouflage makes traffic look like an ordinary HTTPS connection. This is a different approach from WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, which VeePN relies on. There are more than a hundred servers, no logs are kept, registration is optional, and there is a trial period.
BessyConnect apps:
Where VeePN is stronger, to put it plainly. It has apps for Windows and Linux, extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, a free mode with no traffic limit and an external audit of its extensions. BessyConnect has neither a Windows app nor a browser extension. If you need a VPN specifically in Chrome on Windows, BessyConnect won't cover that.
What neither BessyConnect, nor VeePN, nor any other VPN solves. If mobile internet has been restricted to whitelists, a VPN as a rule won't help. BessyConnect won't refund or transfer a subscription you paid for VeePN. And neither VeePN nor BessyConnect is in the Russian App Store: on an iPhone, both require your own Apple ID from another country.
If VeePN has stopped connecting for you or you can't pay for it, try BessyConnect during the trial period: all versions are on the download page.
Does VeePN work in Russia in 2026? Unreliably. On October 26, 2026, VeePN's support wrote in reply to a review that the service may be restricted or work intermittently in a number of regions, including Russia, and October reviews complain of an "Unable to get server configuration" error.
Is VeePN free or paid? Paid, but with a free mode. In the Chrome extension and the Windows app, 6 locations are available for free; on Android and iPhone, one location and sessions of up to 2 hours.
How do I download VeePN on a PC? From the veepn.com website: it has an installer for Windows, as well as versions for macOS and Linux. For the browser there are extensions in the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons and the Edge catalog. You don't need an Android emulator.
Why isn't VeePN in the App Store and Google Play? It isn't in the Russian App Store as of October 26, 2026; it is available in App Stores of other countries, such as Kazakhstan or Armenia. On the Russian Google Play, search doesn't show it and returns Veepen - VPN from a different developer first.
What can I replace VeePN with if it won't connect? On a phone, tablet and TV, we recommend BessyConnect: the VLESS protocol with Reality camouflage, no logs kept, optional registration and a trial period. BessyConnect has no Windows app or browser extension, and on an iPhone you need an Apple ID from another country.
