Velvet VPN («Вельвет ВПН») is a paid VPN service that sells subscriptions through the Telegram bot @velvet_vpn_bot and the site velvetvpn.com. The service has no app of its own in the stores (in March 2026 it wrote that it was developing one): Velvet issues a subscription link on the VLESS Reality protocol, which you add to the third-party client Happ. As of October 27, 2026, a month costs 245 ₽ for one person (up to 5 devices) and 495 ₽ for a family (up to 10 devices). The "Velvet VPN" app that Google Play shows first for the query «вельвет впн» ("velvet vpn") is released by a different publisher, and nothing confirms a connection between that app and the service.
If you need a VPN with its own app from the App Store and Google Play, without Telegram and without registration, we recommend BessyConnect. We explain why in a separate section below.
Velvet VPN has been running since autumn 2024: the first post in its Telegram channel @velvet_vpn is dated October 11, 2024, and the domain velvetvpn.com was registered on October 30, 2024. No legal entity is named on the site. The user agreement and privacy policy name "the Velvet service" as the party to the contract, and the site footer says "© 2026 Velvet Proxy".
The service is large. As of October 27, 2026, the @velvet_vpn channel has 474,534 subscribers, and the bot @velvet_vpn_bot has 357,612 monthly users. A separate channel with server status, @velvet_vpn_health, is read by 275,907 people. For 2025 the service reported 12 petabytes of traffic, half of it over mobile internet.
Several products live under the Velvet name at once, and this is the main thing to sort out before paying:
| What | Where | Who is behind it | Connection to the Velvet service |
|---|---|---|---|
| The site velvetvpn.com | Browser | "The Velvet service", legal entity not named | Official: links to the bot, support and channel |
| The bots @velvet_vpn_bot and @velvet_vps_bot | Telegram | Velvet | Official: the first is listed in the channel, the site's button leads to the second |
| Personal account velvetvpn.app | Browser | Velvet | Official, announced in the channel on March 31, 2026 |
| velvetvpn.click | Browser | Not stated | Calls itself the official site, but its buttons lead to the bot with a referral code. The domain was registered on May 26, 2026 |
| velvetvpn.online, velvetvpn.site | Browser | Not stated | The domains were registered on April 24 and May 25, 2026; on October 27 we couldn't open them, and the official channel doesn't mention them |
| "Velvet VPN" on Google Play (velvetvpn.app) | Android | VLESS DEV, the listing names ООО «ГЕЙМ-ИНВЕСТ» (GAME-INVEST LLC), Arkhangelsk | Not confirmed |
| "Velvet VPN" in the App Store (id6657977998) | iPhone, only in foreign App Stores | S.ERDENER DOO | A namesake: a VPN with a TV remote, subscription from $12.99 a week |
Referral sites appear for an obvious reason. Velvet's affiliate program pays the referrer 30% of all payments from invited users, and for 2025 the service says it paid partners 1,000,000 ₽. How to check a VPN app's publisher before installing is covered in the article how to spot a fake VPN app. Velvet belongs to the same wave of key-based VPN services as the subjects of the review Tok, Tik, Ded and other people's VPNs.
You can manage a Velvet subscription in two ways: in the Telegram bot @velvet_vpn_bot or in the web account velvetvpn.app. The service launched the account on March 31, 2026, in case Telegram gets blocked, and asked all customers to link an email to it. According to the service, that's the only way it can stay in touch with customers in any scenario.
At launch, the account let you get a test subscription, view current ones, connect devices and activate promo codes. Since April 28, 2026, subscriptions and devices can be renamed in the bot and in the account.
Payment, according to the service's terms:
Velvet publishes promo codes in channel posts, and they don't last long. For example, a 30% discount with the code NY2026 was valid until 23:59 on January 6, 2026. You send the code to the bot or enter it in the personal account.
Velvet has no free plan. The individual subscription costs 245 ₽ a month and the family one 495 ₽; when paying for a year, a month comes to 166 ₽ and 333 ₽. The trial period on the site costs 10 ₽ for 3 days with 100 GB of traffic, although the bots' descriptions call it simply "3 days to test" and "3 days free". Prices were taken from velvetvpn.com on October 27, 2026.
| Term | Individual: 1 TB a month, up to 5 devices | Family: 2 TB a month, up to 10 devices |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days (trial) | 10 ₽, 100 GB | — |
| 1 month | 245 ₽ | 495 ₽ |
| 3 months | 649 ₽ | 1,320 ₽ |
| 6 months | 1,175 ₽ | 2,380 ₽ |
| 12 months | 1,990 ₽ | 3,990 ₽ |
Prices have gone up twice. In July 2025 the service raised them by 15%, and from April 1, 2026, the individual plan went up from 195 to 245 ₽ and the family plan from 395 to 495 ₽. At the same time, the limits by device type were replaced with a common limit: any 5 devices on the individual plan and 10 on the family plan.
Mobile internet traffic is counted separately. Since January 1, 2026, the subscription includes 40 GB on the individual plan and 100 GB on the family plan; beyond that you buy packs: since April 2026, 10 GB costs 49 ₽. The service hasn't published new quotas in the channel after the April plan change. Torrents are prohibited on all servers except specially marked ones.
What you need to download is not "Velvet VPN" but the Happ client. In February 2026 the service wrote that Happ had been its default app for several months. You get the subscription in the bot or in the account, and the setup wizard tells you which client to install on your device. The official Velvet site has no links to an app of its own on Google Play or the App Store.
By platform:
If the client says the device limit has been exceeded, delete old devices in the bot (the "Device management" section of the subscription), then tap "Refresh" in Happ. That's what the service itself advises those switching from v2RayTun.
The weak spot the service itself warns about is mobile internet. Since October 16, 2025, the service has had separate LTE configurations for cellular networks, for MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, Yota, T-Mobile, Tele2 and other carriers, but Velvet itself warns that any of them may stop working at any moment. Under the service's terms, the guarantee of operability applies only to the Smart and Bridge configurations and does not apply to LTE.
What to check, in order:
There are situations where neither Velvet nor any other VPN will help. If mobile internet is switched to whitelist mode, you usually can't connect to a foreign server; more in the article on whitelists on mobile internet. Other causes are collected in the article why a VPN isn't working.
According to the privacy policy of February 23, 2026, Velvet stores the Telegram ID and username, subscription status, masked card number, correspondence with support and the anonymized volume of traffic without a list of visited resources. The databases with accounts, according to the service, are located in Russia. Data is disclosed to government bodies upon official request, for example by court order.
What else you should know:
We found no independent written reviews of Velvet. The review catalog vpnstatus.site (a secondary source) showed a rating of 3.8 out of 5 from 57 votes on October 27; 39 voters (68%) noted that the service works for them. The namesake app on Google Play has a 3.0 rating from 51 reviews, but you can't judge the service by it: the app's connection to Velvet isn't confirmed.
If Velvet has stopped connecting or you don't like the "bot plus someone else's client" setup, look at services with their own apps. The table contains only what is published on official sites and in app stores as of October 27, 2026.
| BessyConnect | Velvet VPN | Amnezia Premium | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How to connect | Its own app | Subscription from a Telegram bot or account, Happ client | Its own app AmneziaVPN |
| Protocol | VLESS with Reality camouflage | VLESS Reality | AmneziaWG 3.1 and VLESS Reality |
| Registration | Not required | An account is needed: Telegram or the web account | No data |
| Try it | Trial period | 3 days for 10 ₽ | Free Amnezia Free up to 8 Mbps, without YouTube |
| Windows | No | Via Happ | Yes |
| TV | Android TV, Apple TV | Android TV, Apple TV | Android TV |
| Mobile internet | No separate configurations claimed | LTE configurations for carriers, with a traffic limit | No data |
| Logs | Not kept | Stores Telegram ID, masked card number and traffic volume | No data |
Where Velvet is stronger, to put it plainly. It has separate configurations for mobile carriers, works on Windows and Linux via Happ, a family plan for 10 devices, Russian sites without turning off the VPN, ad blocking and free proxies for Telegram and WhatsApp in its channel. Amnezia, besides the paid plan, offers free, open-source code for running your own server, as well as security audits by 7ASecurity for 2022, 2024 and 2025. The client Velvet connects through is covered in the review of Happ VPN.
We recommend BessyConnect to those who don't want to depend on a Telegram bot and someone else's client. The connection runs on the VLESS protocol with Reality camouflage: traffic looks like an ordinary HTTPS connection. There are more than a hundred servers, no logs are kept, registration isn't required, and there is a trial period.
BessyConnect apps:
What neither BessyConnect nor any other VPN solves. BessyConnect has no Windows app; here Velvet via Happ is more convenient. BessyConnect isn't in the Russian App Store either, so you need an Apple ID from another country, while the Happ client for Velvet is in the Russian App Store. We don't claim separate configurations for mobile carriers, and with whitelists or a complete mobile internet shutdown, no VPN helps.
If Velvet works for you and the price suits you, there is no reason to switch. If you're tired of hunting for a working configuration or don't want to keep your subscription in Telegram, try BessyConnect: all versions are gathered on the download page.
What is the official Velvet VPN site? The official site is velvetvpn.com, the personal account is velvetvpn.app, and the bot is @velvet_vpn_bot. The service doesn't mention the sites velvetvpn.click, velvetvpn.online and velvetvpn.site in its channel.
Is the Velvet VPN app on Google Play official? There is no confirmation. It's released by VLESS DEV (ООО «ГЕЙМ-ИНВЕСТ», GAME-INVEST LLC, Arkhangelsk), which also has apps under other brands, for example Surfshark VPN. Velvet itself works through the Happ client.
Can I download Velvet VPN for PC? There is no separate program. Install Happ for Windows or macOS and add the subscription from the bot to it: the computer will take one of the 5 devices on the individual plan.
Why is Velvet VPN not working on mobile internet? For cellular networks Velvet has separate LTE configurations, and the service doesn't guarantee they work. Refresh the subscription, choose LTE-Auto and check the status channel. If your carrier uses whitelists, no VPN will help.
What can replace Velvet VPN? If you need a VPN with its own app and without a Telegram bot, try BessyConnect: VLESS with Reality camouflage, more than 100 servers, registration isn't required. It won't work for Windows; there Happ with a Velvet subscription or Amnezia is more convenient.
