Kot VPN (KotVPN): what the service is, where its site and personal account are, why it isn't working

Kot VPN («Кот ВПН», "Cat VPN", KotVPN) is a paid subscription to servers sold through the Telegram bot @kotvpn_bot and a personal account at kotvpn.me. The service has no app of its own: the subscription is added as a link to a third-party client, most often Happ. According to the latest announcement in the service's channel, the standard plan has cost 299 rubles a month since May 13, 2026, and the trial period lasts 24 hours. If you need a VPN with its own app in the store and without registration, we recommend BessyConnect. Below we go through what can be verified about Kot from open sources as of October 27, 2026.

What is Kot VPN and who is behind it?

KotVPN is a service that lives in Telegram: the bot issues the subscription, the channel @news_kotvpn reports outages, and support works through the account @contest_vpn. The legal entity, INN (taxpayer number) and address are not named in the bot, in the personal account or in the user agreement.

The service's scale is noticeable. On October 27, 2026, the bot had 92,504 monthly active users, the channel 171,556 subscribers, and the chat @chat_kotvpn 1,783 members. Regular posts in the channel have been coming out since November 11, 2025. On November 28, 2025, the service reported its 10,000th user, and on December 2 its 20,000th.

Six months after launch, the site changed its address, hence the search suggestion «кот впн нет» ("kot vpn net"): people are looking for kotvpn.net.

As of October 27, kotvpn.net redirects to kotvpn.me. The account mirrors the bot's functions: buying and renewing a subscription, gift codes, login via Telegram, Yandex or email. The last point matters if Telegram works intermittently for you: the account opens without it.

Kot VPN, Kot vpn bot, Kotik and Cat VPN: how not to mix them up?

At least six different products operate under similar names, and no connection between them is claimed anywhere. On March 6, 2026, KotVPN itself warned about fake services using its name and listed its only resources: @kotvpn_bot, @news_kotvpn, @chat_kotvpn and @contest_vpn.

What we found on October 27, 2026:

The last row needs an explanation. The "Kot" app in the Russian store has collected 7,626 ratings, while the same program in the US store, where it's called Kitten, has only 29. We didn't check what it actually does. The developer claims no connection to KotVPN. It's better not to install an app whose description doesn't match what you're looking for; why is explained in the article on fake VPN apps.

The suggestions «cat vpn скачать на пк» ("cat vpn download for pc") and «cat vpn для андроид» ("cat vpn for android") more likely refer to apps from the stores, not to the Telegram service KotVPN.

How much does Kot VPN cost and is there a trial?

The standard plan costs 299 rubles a month, premium 499 rubles. The channel announced these prices on May 12, 2026; before that they were 199 and 349 rubles. Since May 14, there has been a plan from 129 rubles a month without servers for mobile networks. The trial period is 24 hours, according to the bot's description.

Until March 20, 2026, unlimited traffic could be added to the subscription. The service dropped this option and explained that a gigabyte of traffic costs it almost 2 rubles. We didn't buy a subscription, so it's better to check current prices in the bot before paying.

Note how payment works. Money is first credited to a balance in the bot, and the subscription has to be activated separately: open "Buy subscription" again and choose a period. This is stated in the channel's pinned answers.

Promo codes appeared in the channel as compensation for outages: SORRY, 1DAY, SORRY3, SORRY50, SORRY20. They were one-off, and the channel itself marked SORRY20 as expired. They are entered in the bot, in the "Promo code" section.

Kot VPN download: Happ on phone and PC

You can't download a "Kot VPN" app — there isn't one. On October 27, 2026, a search for «kotvpn», «kot vpn» and «кот впн» found no app of the service in the App Store, Google Play or RuStore. On March 20, 2026, the channel promised its own app for the App Store and Google Play, but as of the check date it hadn't come out.

According to the channel's posts, the connection scheme is as follows:

1. In the bot @kotvpn_bot or in the kotvpn.me account, start a trial or a subscription.
2. Tap "Connect", then "Add to your app".
3. The subscription will appear in the client, usually Happ. It is updated with the "🔄" button to the right of the line "KotVPN - Быстрый…" ("KotVPN - Fast…").

Hence the query «кот впн хапп» ("kot vpn happ"). There is a complication with Happ on the iPhone. Twice, on June 29 and August 1, 2026, the channel posted links to Happ in the Russian App Store. On October 27, neither link opens any app. Happ - Proxy Utility from Flyfrog LLC is available in the US and Kazakhstan App Store, while in the Russian one a search for "happ proxy utility" finds «Happ VPN: ВПН плюс» (Happ VPN: VPN plus) from another seller, MAX CONCEPT TECHNOLOGY LIMITED. «Кот впн на пк» ("kot vpn on pc") also comes down to the client. Kot has no Windows program of its own, and the channel itself admitted on November 23, 2025, that connecting new protocols is harder on Windows. You can try adding the subscription to the desktop version of Happ; how to do that is described in the guide Happ on PC. Why is Kot VPN not working and what to do?

Most often an outdated subscription is to blame: after blocks, the service changes IP addresses and the link, while the client keeps knocking on the old ones. That's what happened on August 4, 2026, when the service changed the IP addresses of blocked servers, and on August 13, when servers in the Netherlands, France and Germany were blocked. On September 1, the subscription page itself was blocked, and everyone had to reconnect.

What to check, in order, following the channel's own recommendations:

1. Update the subscription in Happ with the "🔄" button.
2. If it doesn't update, the link is old. In the bot: "Subscription" → "Settings" → "Reissue subscription", then connect again and delete the old subscription from the list.
3. Choose another server or the "Automatic search" line, separately for Wi-Fi and for LTE.
4. Check that DNS in your phone's settings is set to "Automatic".
5. Turn airplane mode on and off, switch the network from LTE to 3G and back.
6. If it says "device limit exceeded", remove an extra device in "Subscription" → "Settings" → "Manage devices".
7. Reinstall Happ and add the subscription again.

There are also causes that don't depend on you. On January 24, 2026, the service reported that Russian hosting providers had deleted seven of its servers on the instructions of RKN (Roskomnadzor). On May 7, the channel wrote that 90% of LTE servers had been blocked, and on June 30 about an outage at a data center that took the bot and the site down. Is Kot VPN safe: what the agreement says

The main thing worth reading before paying: according to the user agreement, KotVPN sells not a VPN but access to the materials of the channel @news_kotvpn. Clause 1.3 states outright that the subscription "is not a VPN service". Payment, under clause 7.2, is non-refundable.

What else follows from the documents that open from the personal account:

• Legal entity. Not named. The agreement is published on Telegraph and mentions only "KotVPN".
• Country restriction. Clause 5.1: access only for accounts registered in Russia. If it turns out otherwise, access may be closed without a refund.
• Data. According to the privacy policy dated April 17, 2026, the service may collect the account ID and login, IP address, data about the browser, device and system, as well as interaction history. The document gives no specific retention period.
• Connection logs. There is no separate statement in the documents that logs are not kept.
• Platform. In the account's technical data the service is called "Bedolaga VPN", and the page code mentions the Remnawave panel. It looks like the account is built on a ready-made template rather than written from scratch.

A plus is that the service writes openly about outages and compensates for them with subscription days. But what happens to traffic on the servers can't be verified from open sources.

What can replace Kot VPN: comparison

If Kot has stopped connecting or the agreement without a VPN service bothers you, compare it with three options. The table contains only what is stated on the official pages as of October 27, 2026.

Where Kot is stronger, to put it plainly. The plan from 129 rubles is cheaper than Tok's and Red Shield's. There are separate servers for mobile carriers, payment with a Russian card and via SBP, and a lively chat of 1,783 members helps you find out about outages quickly.
